With over two decades in the construction industry, Rory is an accomplished Senior Structural Engineer and leads our Vancouver Island office. His professional journey, marked by a unique blend of experience as a Geotechnical Engineer, Carpenter and Structural Engineer, has provided him with a comprehensive skillset, allowing him to tackle construction projects from their very foundations to the heights of innovation. Rory’s clients appreciate his practical understanding of construction and are confident that their business is always valued.

At the heart of Rory’s methodology lies an unwavering commitment to creativity. He is a perpetual thinker, forever challenging the status quo with a simple question: “Is there a better way?” This mindset empowers him to forge simple, innovative, and efficient solutions for the most complex challenges in the construction landscape.

At Kor, Rory has an impressive track record, contributing to the design and project management of over 70 diverse projects. His portfolio is a testament to his versatility, ranging from wood frame single-family homes to the some of our most challenging concrete high-rise towers. Rory has a decade of experience with high-rise construction in the PNW region, historically utilizing reinforced concrete and more recently, modular prefabricated steel construction.

Rory’s work also extends to critical areas such as soil-structure interaction, crane loading assessments, and retaining wall design. His commitment to these facets of engineering underscores his holistic approach to construction projects, ensuring that every element, from the ground beneath to the structures above, is meticulously considered and optimized for the best outcomes.

Some of Rory’s recent significant projects include Station Square (Sites 2, 3, 5 and 6), Gilmore Place, Kings Crossing, Telford on the Walk, in Burnaby BC; Burrard Place, Mirabel, Addition, Claridge House in Vancouver BC; Parks and Yards in Surrey BC; 100 Braid, Brewery District, in New Westminster BC; Mahogany in Abbotsford BC; The Royal in Calgary AB; Hudson Place, Pandora, Mod in Victoria BC; The Scene in Langford BC and Westwave in Parksville BC.

Rory joined the Kor team in 2013. He was made a Principal in 2020 and earned both his M.I.Struct.E. (Member of the Institution of Structural Engineers) and Struct.Eng. (Engineers and Geoscientists British Columbia) designations in 2021.

Outside of the office you will find Rory balancing family life with his passion for Mountain Biking, BMX, Motocross, Rock Climbing, Surfing, Snowboarding and a never-ending stream of home improvement projects.

Rory’s commitment to his profession and his community extends beyond the nine-to-five. He generously volunteers his time with EGBC, where he lends his expertise to Engineers and Geoscientists British Columbia’s Structural Practice and Competence Advisory Group. Additionally, he contributes his insights to the global engineering community as a member of the Institution of Structural Engineers’ Seismic and Dynamic Events Panel.
