KOR Review Guidelines – Walls

STANDARD NOTES AND DETAILS, THINGS TO CHECK:

  1. CHECK THICKNESS OF WALL
  2. CHECK SIZE AND SPACING OF REINFORCING BARS.
  3. IN CONTINUOUS RETAINING WALLS, CHECK THAT OUTSIDE FACE STEEL IS PROJECTING THE CORRECT AMOUNT INTO EACH LIFT OF WALL AND THAT THE STAGGER, IF SPECIFIIED IS CORRECT.
  4. IN RETAINING WALLS, CHECK THAT REINFORCING IS SECURETLY TIED OFF AT THE SPECIFIED CLEARANCES TO THE FORMS.
  5. CHECK FOR 2-15M VERTICAL BARS AT ENDS OF WALLS. SEE STANDARD NOTES.
  6. CHECK FOR EXTRA REINFORCING AROUND OPENINGS. SEE STANDARD NOTES. IN TYPICALLY REINFORCED WALLS, 2-15M ARE REQURIED PARALLEL TO ALL EDGES OF OPENINGS. HOWEVER IF PRINCIPAL REINFORCTING STELLS HAS BEEN CUT AT AN OPENING, MAKE SURE THAT THE AREA OF THE BARS CUT OFF IS MADE UP BY EXTRA BARS BESIDE OPENING, TENSION SPLICED PAST THE CORNERS (2-15M MAY NOT ALWAYS BE SUFFICIENT). SIGNIFICANT OPENINGS OR SERIES OF PIPE SLEEVES THROUGH RETAINING WALLS WHICH ARE NOT SHOWN ON THE DRAWINGS SHOULD BE REVIEWED BY THE DESIGN ENGINEER.
  7. CHECK THAT MATCHING CORNER BARS ARE PROVIDED FOR HORIZONTAL STEEL AT CORNERS. SEE STANDARD DETAIL. WHERE HORIZONTAL REINFORCING TERMINATES IN A COLUMN OR PILASTER, IT SHOULD BE TENSION LAPPTED WITH THE TIES.
  8. CHECK THAT SPLICE LENGTHS CONFORM TO STANDARD NOTES. THE 1.3 “TOP BAR” FACTOR FOR SPLICE LENGTHS DOES NOT APPLY TO HORIZONTAL WALL STEEL IN NON-SHEAR WALLS.
  9. IN LONG EXTERIOR WALLS CHECK THE CONTROL JOINTS
  10. CHECK THAT WEEP HOLES, IF REQUIRED, ARE PROVIDD AT BOTTOM OF RETAINING WALLS.
  11. CHECK THAT BOTTOM OF WALL IS CLEAN
