KOR Review Guidelines – Slabs

STANDARD NOTES AND DETAILS, THINGS TO CHECK:

  1. SLAB BOTTOM STEEL
    1. CHECK SIZE, SPCING AND NUMBER OF REINFORCING BARS.
    2. CHECK LENGTH, STAGGER, AND END LOCATION OF REINFORCING BARS.
    3. CHECK THAT THE SPECIFIED BAR PLACING ORDER HAS BEEN FOLLOWED. IF REVERSED, CHECK WITH DESIGN ENGINEER.
    4. IN ONE-WAY SLABS, CHECK TEMPERATURE REINFORCING AGAINSTS STANDARD NOTES. TEMPERATURE REINFORCING SHOULD ALWAYS BE PLACED IN UPPER LAYER AND TENSION SPLICED.
    5. CHAIRING AND TYING: BOTTOM STELL SHOULD BE SUPPORTED ON ENOUGH CHAIRS TO MAINTAIN SPECIFIED CONCRETE COVER THROUGHOUT. PRINCIPAL REINFORCING BARS MAY NOT BE DROPPED.
    6. BARS SHOULD BE TIED TOGETHER SUFFICIENTLY TO PREVENT SHIFTING DURING POUR. MINIMUM 3 TIES PER BAR.IN GENERAL, WHEN WALKING ON BOTTOM STEEL, BARS SHOULD NOT BE SHIFTING, BREAKING LOOSE, OR EASILY PUSHED DOWN TO FORMS.
    7. CHECK FOR 2-15M CONTINUOUS BARS IN ALL FREE SLAB EDGES AS PER STANDARD NOTES
    8. BOTTOM BARS SHOULD BE SPREAD, NOT CUT. 2-15M EXTRA BARS ARE REQUIRED PARALLEL TO ALL EDGES OF OPENINGS.
  2. SLAB TOP STEEL
    1. CHECK MAT LAYOUTS AGAINST STANDARD DETAILS. MAKE SURE THAT EXTRA BARS ARE CONCENTRATED IN CENTRE OF MAT AS SPECIFIED.
    2. CHECK THAT MATS ARE CENTERED ON COLUMNS UNLESS NOTED OTHERWISE. PREFABRICATED MATS ARE OFTEN MISPLACED.
    3. CHAIRED AND TYING: TOP STEEL SHOULD BE SUPPORTED ON ENOUGH SUPPORT BARS AND CHAIRS TO MAINTAIN SPECIFIED CONCRETE COVER.
    4. FOR MATS, MINIMUM NUMBER OF CHAIRS IS SHOWN ON STANDARD DETAILS.
    5. BARS SHOULD BE TIED TOGETHER SUFFICIENTLY TO PREVENT SHIFTING DURING POUR.
    6. IN GENERAL, WHEN WALKING ON TOP OF STEEL BARS SHOULD NOT BE SHIFTING, BREAKING LOOSE OR SAGGING EXCESSIVELY. MATS SHOULD NOT ROCK OR SLIP OFF CHAIRS.
    7. CHECK FOR FLYING ENDS; SUPPORT BARS AND CHAIRS SHOULD BE CLOSE ENOUGH TO ENDS OF BARS TO PREVENT THEM WOBBLING.
    8. LOOK FOR TOP STEEL OVER ALL SUPPORTS. CHECK WITH DESIGN ENGINEER IF DRAWINGS DO NOT SHOW IT SOMEWHERE.
    9. CHECK THAT MESH IS PLACED OVER IN-SLAB DUCTS
  3. BEAMS AND SLAB-BANDS
    1. CHECK WIDTH AND DEPTH.
    2. CHECK SIZE, NUMBER, LENGTH, STAGGER, AND END LOCATION OF TOP AND BOTTOM BARS.
    3. CHECK THAT THE SPECIFIIED BAR PLACING ORDER HAS BEEN FOLLOWED AT BEAM OR SLAB-BAND INTERSECTIONS. IF NOT CLEAR ON DRAWINGS CHECK WITH DESIGN ENGINEER.
    4. CHARING AND TYING: CHECK THAT TOP AND BOTTOM STEEL IS CHAIRED TO SPECIFIED CLEARANCES.
    5. BARS SHOULD BE TIED SUFFICIENTLY TO PREVENT SHIFTING DURING POUR.
    6. CHECK THAT CONTINUOUS TOP BARS ARE SPLICED AT MIDSPAN – NOT AT OR NEAR SUPPORTS
    7. CHECK STIRRUP SIZE, SPACING AND CONFIGURATION. FIRST STIRRUP SHOULD BE LOCATED ½ SPACE FROM FACE OF SUPPORT UNLESS NOTED OTHERWISE.
  4. GENERAL
    1. SPLICING: CHECK THAT ALL SPLICES IN SLAB AND BEAM REINFORCING ARE CLASS C TENSION SPLICES AS PER STANDARDS NOTES UNLESS NOTED OTHERWISE. SPLICES IN “TOP BARS” (BARS WITH 300MM OR MORE CONCRETE BELOW THEM) MUST BE INCREASED BY FACTOR 1.3. INCREASES ARE ALSO REQUIRED FOR EPOXY-COATED REINFORCING. WIDESPREAD SPLICING SHOULD BE DISCUSSED WITH THE DESIGN ENGINEER.
    2. CONDUITS, SLEEVES, AND IN-SLAB DUCTS:
    3. CHECK THAT CONDUIT SPACING, MAXIMUM SIZE, AND NUMBER OF LAYERS ARE IN ACCORDANCE WITH STANDARD NOTES. CONDUITS RUNNING PARALLEL TO FACE OF SUPORTS SHOULD BE 300MM MIMIMUM CLEAR OF FACE. CONDUITS SHOULD NOT CUT ACROSS COLUMNS. CHECK WITH DESIGN ENGINEER REGARDING AREAS OF CONDUIT CONGESTION WHICH DO NOT CONFORM TO STANDARD NOTES. SLAB THICKENING OR EXTRA REINFORCING MAY BE REQUIRED.
    4. CHECK THAT SPACING OR VERTICAL SLEEVES THROUGH SLABS IS IN ACCORDANCE WITH STANDARD NOTES. SLEEVES MUST BE 1200MM CLEAR OF COLUMNS UNLESS OTHERWISE APPROVED BY DESIGN ENGINEER. ALL SLEEVES THROUGH BEAMS AND SLAB-BANDS, EITHER HORIZONTAL OR VERTICAL, MUST BE APPROVED BY DESIGN ENGINEER.
    5. CHECK THAT SIZE AND SPACING OF IN-SLAB DUCTS IS IN ACCORDANCE WITH STANDARD NOTES AND THAT DUCT IS CENTERED IN SLAB DEPTH.
    6. WHEN CHECKING A SLAB, ALWAYS LOOK ON THE DRAWINGS AT ALL SECTIONS AND DETAILS REFERRED TO ON THE FLOOR PLAN. WATCH FOR COLUMNS AND WALLS STARTING FROLM THE SLAB – SOMETIMES DOWELS ARE REQUIRED WHICH ARE ONLY INDICATED ON THE COLUMN OR WALL SCHEDULE.
