KOR Review Guidelines – Shear Walls

STANDARD NOTES AND DETAILS, THINGS TO CHECK:

  • CHECK THICKNESS OF WALL.
  • ZONE REINFORCING:
    1. CHECK NUMBER, SIZE, AND SPACING OF VERTICAL REINFORCING BARS.
    2. CHECK THAT PROPERLY MARKED WELDABLE STEEL IS BEING USED, IF SPECIFIED.
    3. CHECK SPACING, BAR SIZE, DIMENSIONS, AND ARRANGEMENT OF TIES.
    4. ALL TIE ENDS TO BE BENT 135 DEGREES AND POINTED TO INSIDE OF CAGE.
    5. CHECK LENGTH OF SPLICE AND DOWELS FROM BELOW. TENSION SPICE REQUIRED UNLESS NOTED OTHERWISE. ALL DOWELS MUST BE INSIDE TIES.
    6. CHECK LENGTH OF SPLICE WITH ZONE ABOVE. ALWAYS LOOK ONE FLOOR AHEAD ON ZONE SCHEDULE FOR TRANSITIONS AT TOP OF LIFT YOU ARE CHECKING.
    7. CRANKING OF ZONE BARS AT SPLICES IS NOT PERMITTED.
    8. CHECK THAT ZONE SPLICE LOCATIONS ARE BEING STAGGERED AS SHOWN ON ZONE SCHEDULE, IF REQUIRED.
  • WALL REINFORCING:
    1. CHECK THAT PROPERLY MARKED WELDABLE STEEL IS BEING USED
    2. CHECK LENGTH OF SPLICE WITH DOWELS FROM BELOW
    3. CRANKING OF VERTICAL BARS AT SPLICES IS NOT PERMITTED.
    4. CHECK THAT HORIZONTAL WALL STEEL IS PLACED INSIDE VERTICAL ZONE BARS AND EXTENDED TO END OF WALL. 180 DEGREE HOOKED SPLICE BARS ARE REQUIRED AT ZONES WHEN STRAIGHT.
  • NO CONDUIT, ELECTRICAL BOXES, OR SLEEVES ARE PERMITTED IN SHEAR WALLS WITHOUT PRIOR APPROVAL OF DESIGN ENGINEER. NO HORIZONTAL RUNS OF CONDUIT IS PERMITTED IN SHEARWALLS OR WALLS.
  • CHECK THAT REINFORCING IS SECURELY TIED OFF TO MAINTAN SPECIFIED CLEARANCE TO THE FORMS. ZONES OFTEN REQUIRE CHAIRING. ALL VERTICAL STEEL SHOULD BE TIED OFF AT THE TOP OF FORMS.
